Why Offenses Come…

^“And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended”Mark 4:17 (KJV).

Dear reader, nice to meet again. It’s a privilege to spend this time with you. Last time we met, we discussed the fact that offenses must and will come. In other words it is inevitable. It has nothing to do with the color of your skin, your degree or pedigree, your social standing, your educational background or the lack of it. Today, I want to continue with the issue of offenses because my heart is broken for some of you who have allowed offences to box you in and cut short your destiny.

I must admit that we serve a God that is not fully understood, a God who rarely makes clear what He is doing in the life of His children. However, He has given us a little insight into why offenses come and I want us to look at a few of the reasons today.

According to our Lord in His explanation of the “parable of the sower” we become offended due to affliction and persecution. And the reason for these two is because of the word of God.

Whatever word you have received, the enemy is coming after it and he is going to do it through offenses.

1. The number one goal for offenses is to break your focus. Don’t allow your focus to be shifted to the offense. Sometimes it is just a false accusation that someone spreads about you and it devastates you, you get offended and you walk away from destiny.
2. The completion of our assignment is your enemy’s greatest fear. Think about it, Satan hates finishers. It is not enough to begin. Only those who endure to the end shall be saved, promoted and rewarded. Paul wrote to his protégé Timothy and said, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7). Be a finisher.  Endurance is your decision.
3. The offense is not the issue; your reaction to the offense is the issue.  Determine and decree that you are too big to take offense.
4. Offense is just bait. There is a powerful and cunning fisherman or fisherwoman dropping bait in the pond of your life. Do not fall for it. You have come too far, fought and won too many battles, invested too much, you have come too far to turn back now.

Keep on fighting soldier, we are closer now than when we fight began. Finish and finish well.
